Private Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach Tour by jeep

Tour operator: Icelandpremiumtours     14 hours     Travel method: Jeep / 4x4

Discover all the must-see sites of the Icelandic South Coast all the way to the spectacular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Get ready to explore beautiful waterfalls, black sand beaches, glaciers, volcanoes, and more.

In the morning we will pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik and we will head towards our first stop, the magnificent Skógafoss, one of Iceland's most visited waterfalls. You will have some time to walk up close to the waterfall and you can also climb up the staircase on the side of the waterfall to take stunning pictures from above.

We will then continue our journey driving the Ring Road. We will be getting closer to one of Iceland's most active volcanoes, Hekla known in the Middle Ages as the “gateway to hell”.

We will visit Dyrholaey sea cliff from which you have a fantastic view of the black sand beaches, the ocean and the mountains.

With some luck, it is possible to spot some puffins on the cliffs in the summer months (June-August)

From the Ring Road, another Icelandic volcano is visible - the infamous Eyjafjallajokull that erupted in 2010 affecting air traffic all over Europe.

We will stop for lunch near Reynisfjara, the famous black sand beach with sea stacks and basalt columns, before heading to the picturesque town of Vik i Myrdal, where we will admire Reynisdrangar sea rock formations.

Our journey will then continue through the ever-changing landscape of the Icelandic south coast. We will drive through green lava fields, admiring sea cliffs, barren black sand deserts, glacial rivers, and we will stop at the spectacular Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon.

We will continue to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, one of Iceland-s most beautiful attractions.

Here, icebergs of various colors, sizes and shapes float from the glacier to the Atlantic Ocean. Some are washed up on the shore known as the Diamond Beach, for the ice here shines like diamonds.

We will have time to explore the lagoon and to take an optional boat tour, when available (usually from May to October). Boat rides are optional and not included.

Then we will be slowly heading back to Reykjavik and on our way back we will stop at the Seljalandsfoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall. A visit to this waterfall is not complete without a walk behind it so make sure you bring your rain jacket and get ready to get wet.

Just a short walk from Seljalandsfoss hides another beautiful waterfall, Gljúfrabúi, usually omitted by big bus tours. We will visit it in the summer months only.

There will be plenty of coffee and toilet breaks during this private tour, so you can enjoy Iceland in comfort. On the way back, if you take a tour in the winter (September-March) we will try to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights, weather permitting.
